Mental Health Matters
May is mental health awareness month. At LáLew, mental health and wellness are priorities for the well-being of our team. Finding the balance between work and life can be quite difficult, but it is important to find this balance. Here are LáLew's favorite tips for handling workplace stress so you can find stability in your professional life:
1. Have an open line of communication with your boss or mentor
The open line of communication between our CEO and our team has been a useful tool in ensuring that our team is not taking on too much stress. Our team looks out for one another and can rely on Jessica to do the same! Your boss has gotten where they are because they have overcome the same obstacles you are dealing with, so they know the best practices to overcome stress. We have also managed to bring wellness experts into our meetings to gain additional insights and ideas!
2. Make time to step away
It is important to take breaks. Think of it as a “rest day” like an athlete must take to progress in their training. Without rest, there can be no progress in your work. This can even mean taking a break during the work day, before returning to a project. Taking time to recharge is an effective way to bring a new perspective to a project, and look at it in a way that you wouldn’t have done before, had you tried to push through.
3. Develop organizational and time management skills
An effective schedule will always be organized with projects and leaving room for downtime. Managing your time properly is a way to ensure a more perfect work-life balance. This can be anything from proper communication skills to setting goals for yourself. A well-organized planner is important too. Online calendars can be useful for meetings and project deadlines, especially with notification features.
4. Prioritize projects
Not every work assignment will carry the same urgency. Sometimes a project will take heed to another, so it is okay to focus on one project more than another. Focusing on your deadlines and putting more time into a project can be an effective use of time management. If possible, you may even be able to propose a reasonable deadline, especially if you are putting much effort into your work and projects.
5. Collaborate with team members
You know what they say: Teamwork makes the dream work! Often a project is too overwhelming for just one person and it would be a more effective use of company time to have more than one team member on an assignment. Knowing when to ask for help not only decreases your stress, but also can be a way to get a new and fresh perspective on a project.
