Cayuga County Office of Tourism

Harriet Tubman

Cayuga County is centrally located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes Region. Its largest city, Auburn, NY, served as the home of abolitionist and human rights activist Harriet Tubman from 1859 through her passing in 1913. It also acts as her final resting place, with a historic marker noting her heroism standing today in Fort Hill Cemetery.

In March 2022, the Cayuga County Office of Tourism celebrated Tubman’s 200th birthday with a bicentennial celebration commemorating Tubman and her lifelong achievements. Partnering with Break the Ice Media, LáLew PR helped the Tourism Office refocus the perception of the destination and reposition itself as a place where freedom, justice, and equality lives.

Together, we earned 1.7 billion PR impressions from 80 placements including feature placements in national and niche publications, and partnerships with key influencers.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
