Sista CEO: Empowering Black Women in Leadership
Sista CEO: Empowering Black Women in Leadership
On October 20, 2024, Black women in leadership roles came together for the Sista CEO “Sistas That Lead” photoshoot. Hosted by The Legacy Drama House, a theater and event space in Rochester, this photography and networking session provided attendees with a safe environment to connect and share their experiences. The event highlighted the tenacity, brilliance, leadership, and resilience of Black female leaders, serving as a powerful reminder of their contributions.
LáLew’s CEO, Jessica Lewis, took part in the photoshoot, seizing the opportunity to empower fellow leaders in the community. Special thanks to Dr. Mary Bisbee-Burrows of The Legacy Drama House for coordinating and hosting the event, and to Courtney Marie Photography for beautifully capturing the essence of the attendees, in stunning green business attire.
Events like these remind us of the monumental role Black and Brown women play in leadership. In fact, the 2024 Bank of America Women & Minority Business Owner Spotlight found that “78% — of small and midsize business owners anticipate revenue growth in the next 12 months, including 76% of women, 82% of Hispanic-Latino, 84% of Black/African American and 83% of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) entrepreneurs” (BizJournal).
These figures demonstrate the power and strength of women and minority business owners, and speak to a future reflecting more diversity in business. While we celebrate these wins, it is also important to remember to hold true to the spirit of continuous growth and fierceness that have driven leadership thus far.
Events like the “Sistas That Lead” photoshoot are fundamental to keeping the momentum going for Black female leaders, while simultaneously honoring the strength, innovation and excellence demonstrated by all involved. Thank you again to Dr. Bisbee-Burrows for organizing the event, and a shoutout to all of the sisters in attendance who made the event so productive and inspiring.
