During the COVID-19 pandemic, universities across the country faced steep enrollment declines. In September 2021, LáLew Public Relations partnered with Houghton University leadership to amplify the vision and initiatives of their newly appointed president, Dr. Wayne D. Lewis, Jr., focusing on raising awareness of the university’s offerings, values, and distinct advantages. 

Houghton University, a nationally ranked Christian college of the liberal arts and sciences, is the best-priced Christian university in the nation. With an enrollment of nearly 1,000 students, Houghton has equipped graduates for lifelong success since 1883 through customizable programs offered in Houghton and Western New York, and online. The University offers more than 50 undergraduate in-person and online programs, including Equestrian Management, Data Science, Engineering and Christian Ministries, as well as graduate programs in business, education and music. 

Through a targeted media strategy, our efforts secured more than 10 news stories in key outlets such as Buffalo Business First, The College Post, Buffalo Biz Journal and Minority Reporter, helping to position Houghton as a compelling choice for prospective students. Under the president’s leadership - and with the support of our communications campaign - Houghton University has found itself nationally ranked, with notable placements in The Princeton Review (2025), U.S. News & World Report (2024) and Money Magazine (2024) as a standout Northeast liberal arts college. In accordance, Houghton has seen two consecutive years of increase in enrollment and they maintain an 83.7% retention rate (as compared to the national average of 80%).
